The Wildside – Botswana Safari

July 10, 2021 by Trisha Moses

As with most new places I travel to, I aim to have a clear mind and zero expectations. That way I eliminate any chance of disappointment.

However, rest assured that Botswana will not disappoint. I was blown away as I developed our new Botswana Safari experience, which also includes Victoria Falls for 2022. I can honestly say that this adventure was over the top in every way possible.

Wildlife

Giraffes and Impalas – Chobe River

In general, wildlife is unpredictable and hard to spot, but being in a destination like Botswana where the wildlife is abundant, will vastly increase the chance of regular encounters.

The Chobe River was over the top, with animals galore. I could have easily sat all day, watching all these animals milling about.

Cape Buffalo by the hundreds on the banks of the Chobe River

The island that you see is just a slice of what was overtaken with at least 300 hundred Cape Buffalo. And no, I’m not exaggerating. If I was wise enough to bring a better camera I would have better photos to share.

Trisha’s Botswana Tip 1: Bring a better camera.

The Okavango Delta

A warm welcome in The Delta

I have never received a warmer welcome than when I arrived in The Delta. You could feel the warmth and excitement of the staff finally seeing guests after being closed down for over a year. The staff was abuzz with the energy and thrill of being back to doing what they enjoy.

Kudu in my backyard – Delta

Did I mention that Kudus are my favorite antelopes? Because they are, I absolutely love their markings and the males have amazing spiral horns that are gorgeous! I was so geeked out when I discovered a herd right outside my front door!

The Roar of a Pride – Sound on

The Paradise Pride

I will admit, there was a bit of fear in me as I sat so close to this pride and listened to them. We had been looking for this particular pride of 8 all day, it was pretty great to finally track them down. They put on quite a show before wandering off into the distance.

What are you looking at?

I’ve never met an elephant I didn’t like. This guy was just relaxing by the roadside. He was just screaming for his photo to be taken. Such a poser.

Birds!

Hornbill just outside the Delta

I tend to struggle with bird viewing. Maybe it’s my bad eyesight. Maybe it’s the overwhelming number of species that I can’t begin to remember them all. However, something about the birds on this adventure kept me interested. This hornbill loved to perch in this tree outside the lodge.

Botswana is truly a one-of-a-kind destination. So unique and inspiring. The people, wildlife, and the amazing level of treatment made this a wonderful place to visit.
