Vacation to Another World
I’ve always wanted to go to Antarctica. It’s a polar desert and the coldest place on Earth—not exactly what first comes to mind when planning a vacation. However, this is what makes it so fascinating. Antarctica was the last place on Earth to be discovered, having only been seen for the first time in 1820 and not thoroughly explored until much later. As there is no indigenous population, Antarctica is truly a no man’s land. This gives it a strange quality—visiting this place to me would feel like visiting the moon.
Land of Mystery
When I think of Antarctica, I immediately envision towering icebergs peeking through a dense fog, massive snow-covered mountains, and the diverse wildlife that make this extraordinary land their home. Countless others have been inspired by the tales and reports that expeditioners brought back with them from this mysterious place. A notable example is H.P. Lovecraft who in At the Mountains of Madness writes a spooky tale of an expedition to Antarctica who found much more than they bargained for.
You Can Go To Antarctica
In more recent times, with modern technology, Antarctica is no longer frightening yet it retains an air of mystery as not many people go there. Before I started working for HE Travel, I thought the only way to visit the continent was through scientific research. However, there are cruises available to all now, making this once inaccessible land available to those who, like me, are enchanted by it. We can now witness the beauty of the ice sheets, towering mountains, and penguins for ourselves! We can be explorers and set foot on the most remote continent on the planet.
Now is the Time
With the planet constantly changing, and with West Antarctica being one of the fastest-warming regions on Earth, visiting this magical place feels more urgent today. We have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit another world and capture it in our hearts. Antarctica is absolutely on my bucket list and if it’s now on yours, be sure to check out our Antarctica Adventure Tour so we can take you there!
