Zachary’s Notes – January — On the Road, On Purpose

January 5, 2026 by Zachary Moses

January is always a strange and wonderful month in travel.

The holidays are barely behind us, calendars are suddenly serious again, and yet… this is when the year truly reveals itself. Plans solidify. Conversations turn real. People stop talking about travel and start committing to it.

For me, this past month has been spent almost entirely in motion. Between continents, between tours, between conversations with travelers who have been with us for years and others who are just finding their way to HE Travel for the first time.

For over five decades, HE Travel has specialized in gay group travel tours created specifically for gay men who want connection, culture, and exceptional experiences.

And that’s why January has quietly become one of my favorite months of the year.

Customer Appreciation Month (and Why It Matters)

January is our Customer Appreciation Month, but I want to be clear about something: this isn’t a marketing construct. It’s a reflection.

HE Travel exists because gay men trusted us, for more than 50 Years, to take them into the world safely, confidently, and without apology. Many of you didn’t just book a trip once. You built friendships here. You met partners here. You found versions of yourselves here that didn’t exist before you packed your bags.

That kind of trust deserves acknowledgment—not just words.

So this month, we’re extending $400 off any tour, simply as a thank-you for traveling with us. And because so many of our best trips happen when friends bring friends, we’re adding an additional $300 off for every friend you bring—and they receive the same discount.

No fine print. Just a nudge to travel together.

Nearly Full—and Grateful

Several of our upcoming journeys are now very close to capacity, which tells me something important: people are ready.

  • Botswana — 2 rooms remaining
A safari that delivers exactly what people imagine when they dream of Africa—and then quietly exceeds it.
  • Sri Lanka — 1 room-share remaining
One of the most intimate and culturally rich itineraries we operate. Thoughtful, beautiful, and deeply human.
  • Egypt — 3 cabins remaining
Egypt continues to surprise travelers—not just with history, but with how alive it feels when experienced properly, with the right group and the right pacing.

These trips aren’t filling because of urgency tactics. They’re filling because travelers talk to each other. Because trust compounds. Because once you travel this way, it’s very hard to go back to anything else.

On the Road With You

This last month reminded me why I still travel alongside our tours whenever I can.

There is no spreadsheet, meeting, or planning document that replaces sitting at a dinner table with you after a long day. Hearing what surprised you, what moved you, what challenged you, and what you didn’t expect to feel.

Those conversations shape everything we do next.

Looking Ahead

As we move deeper into the year, I feel unusually grounded about where HE Travel is headed. Focused. Intentional. Less noise, more meaning.

If you’ve traveled with us before—thank you. Truly.
If you’re joining us for the first time this year—I’m glad you’re here.
And if you’re still deciding, January is a very good time to listen to that pull.

As always, I’ll see you on tour.

Warmly,

Zachary Moses – CXO

About Zachary Moses

Zachary has worked every role at HE Travel, beginning in the marketing mailroom in 2010 and steadily rising through the ranks. His leadership journey culminated in two years on the board of directors for the National Tour Association, followed by an additional two years as CEO of HE Travel.

In 2020, Zachary ran for Governor of Utah as a Democrat, drawing international attention while campaigning in one of the most historically conservative states in the country.

During a 14-month pandemic-related sabbatical, he returned to his roots in carpentry, restoring multiple historic buildings. That same year, he delivered a TEDx talk proposing innovative solutions to help preserve the Great Salt Lake and other western saline ecosystems.

Zachary has since returned to HE Travel, now serving as Chief Experience Officer (CXO), where he focuses on guest experience, innovation, and brand vision.

With more than a decade at the company, Zach continues to lead tours, write for the company blog, and speak at international travel conferences—bringing both frontline experience and executive insight to everything he does.
